District Update – May 2024

Spring Session is continuing to move along quickly! We’ve passed by the 3rd reading deadline for House Bills to be voted on and they have moved to the Senate for their consideration. I was proudly able to pass HB 4321 andHB 5288. So far I am presenting the following bills:

SB 914: Expands eligibility to buy deer and turkey landowner hunting permits to include property owners who do not live on that property as a permanent residence. Existing property eligibility requirements, such as having a property size of 40 acres or more, still apply. Permit fees will be no more than the regular version of these hunting permits.

SB 2702: Amends the Fire Sprinkler Contractor Licensing Act to clarify existing language. Makes it clear that a fire sprinkler inspector is not allowed to work for multiple fire sprinkler contractors at the same time, which was the original intent of the bill.

There are thousands of bills up for consideration throughout all of session. In order to best represent you, the constituents of 15th District, please reach out and share your opinion on how you feel about bills you find important. To see potential legislation, where bills are in the process, and bills up for consideration please visit Illinois General Assembly’s website.

This Saturday May 4th from 9am-10:30am we are hosting our annual FREE Paper Shredding Event that will include Electronic Recycling and Safe Prescription Drug Disposal alongside Alderman Samantha Nugent and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. Contact our office if you have any questions.

As Spring brings better weather that means more construction is taking place. Please review the IDOT Projectstaking place in our district for safer transportation.

The Dempster Bridge Repair project is underway! Improving local infrastructure is essential for fostering economic growth, enhancing public safety, and ensuring a high quality of life for residents!

Expected completion is September 2024

Construction has started for inbound I-94 ramps to and from Wilson Avenue, as well as the outbound I-94 entrance ramp from Wilson Avenue. These ramps will be closed and detoured for the

Kennedy Bridge Rehabilitation Project.

Wilson Avenue will remain open with lanes reduced to 9 feet to accommodate construction on the bridge.

Project completion is anticipated for fall 2024.

To see more information about the project, visit IDOT.

In May, the Village will begin the construction of roadway, signal, and underground infrastructure improvements to Austin Avenue and Oakton Street. Improvements will be made to Austin Avenue between Oakton Street and Main Street, and to Oakton Street between Lehigh Avenue and Austin Avenue. The construction will have a significant effect on traffic moving through the Austin/Oakton intersection, so please plan for delays.

The project will be completed by mid-November 2024.

The project was developed in partnership with the Village of Skokie and Illinois Department of Transportation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email publicworks@mortongroveil.org or call 847-470-5235.
