The Skip-the-Line program is a customer service initiative launched by Secretary Giannoulias to eliminate the unpredictability of wait times at Illinois DMVs. The program begins September 1, 2023.The Skip-the-Line program includes:Simplified Online Services – Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the many services offered online, including renewing their driver’s license or ID card and license plate sticker online.Appointment Scheduling – Customers will be required to make appointments for in-person visits at 44 of the busiest DMVs including all Chicago and suburban locations and some central and downstate DMVs for those seeking REAL ID, driver’s license and ID card services, and in-car driving tests.New Extended Hours of Operation – All DMVs statewide will extend hours of operation, with 15 facilities open six days a week – Monday through Saturday.All DMVs will change their days and hours of operation from Tues-Sat to Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.15 DMVs will also be open on Saturday, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Make an Appointment
The Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias’s office launched two “Senior Only” walk-in centers in the Chicago area. The two locations include the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 N. Ridge Road in Evanston and Seat Geek Stadium, 7000 S. Harlem Ave. in Bridgeview. Seniors at these locations will not need appointments, as these walk-in centers are specifically designed to meet their needs. By offering this targeted option, their office is prioritizing seniors without impacting customers at DMVs who have made appointments. Seniors still have the option to make a standard appointment at these and other locations.
Area residents impacted by storms and floods over the summer can now take advantage of the recent federal disaster declared by President Joe Biden by obtaining assistance for uninsured or underinsured losses. Aid is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through October 16 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Many of our neighbors and community members are still struggling with the aftereffects of this summer’s severe weather, and in too many cases, insurance isn’t fully making them whole. Before the recent federal declaration, FEMA assistance wasn’t available, but if you were told you weren’t eligible before, you should now check again. Federal aid may be able to cover some or all of what your insurance doesn’t. Impacted residents who have insurance coverage must first file a claim. Those with uninsured or underinsured losses may contact FEMA either online at disasterassistance.gov, by downloading the FEMA app or by calling FEMA’s Helpline at 800-621-3362.
